Jacob Gilpin is a passionate singer-songwriter who has dedicated his life to creating music that moves people. While often compared to legends like Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, Jacob doesn’t box himself into any single genre. He simply writes and sings what he loves, blending the heart of country with the grit of classic rock, the soul of blues, and the spirit of gospel.
Music has always been part of Jacob’s story. He grew up riding in the farm truck, listening to Toby Keith, Merle Haggard, and Hank Williams Sr. His father, a part-time DJ, gave Jacob a front-row seat to the world of music. At just five years old, Jacob began performing at local events, nursing homes, and community fundraisers, and he hasn’t stopped since.
At 14, he picked up his first guitar, a Martin D-35, and everything changed. He fell in love with the instrument, often falling asleep with it in his arms. Just three months after strumming his first chord, he played his first live show. That same year, he discovered outlaw country and found a deep connection to the raw honesty of its lyrics and the driving rhythms that gave them life.
His next release, the single The Man You See in Me, dives even deeper, sharing a raw and emotional battle with inner demons. Jacob writes from experience, often pulling from the darker chapters of his life. Songwriting became his lifeline, helping him through tough times and offering comfort to those walking similar roads. His lyrics touch on heartbreak, hard work, faith, and healing.
“There’s no set process to how I write,” Jacob says. “Sometimes a lyric just hits me out of nowhere. I have to write it down before I forget. Then I sit down with my guitar and build a story around it.”
When it comes time to record, Jacob and his band gather at the studio, start acoustic, and build the sound together, crafting an atmosphere that reflects the emotion of the song.
Jacob’s music is a voice for the working class, honest, heartfelt, and deeply relatable. With each performance, he proves that it’s not about fitting into a genre... it’s about telling the truth and connecting with others through the power of a song.
In the summer of 2021, Jacob received a call from Mel Heeman, a seasoned musician in the area, looking for a rhythm guitarist. Jacob jumped at the opportunity. That summer, they played throughout Bradford County, performing classic country hits. Mel became a mentor, teaching Jacob the ropes of the live music scene. When Mel headed south for the winter, Jacob kept playing, gigging at local bars and restaurants, sometimes just for tips, always for the love of music.
Jacob’s journey has included several proud milestones. He placed 2nd in the Pennsylvania FFA State Music Competition in 2020, ranked in the top 3 of the 2023 American Idol Meets The Voice competition, and won 1st place at the Endless Mountains Maple Festival Vocal Talent Search in 2024. In 2023, he recorded his first acoustic album in Nashville and followed it up with his debut full-band album, Boys Like Me, recorded at 8 Days A Week Studio in Northumberland, PA. The six-track project features some of his most powerful original songs.
